Williams-Sonoma comes home: Remembering Founder Chuck Williams

This week Chuck Williams passed away at 100 years old, just one year after his flagship Williams-Sonoma store returned to it’s original home on Broadway in Sonoma.

I was fortunate enough to attend that store opening celebration last autumn and published this brief article in Napa Sonoma Magazine: You can read about it at No Place Like Home and then peruse a few photos on my Pinterest page.  More will be added soon.

Wishing Chuck a peaceful rest.

Wine & Poetry: Litquake: October 15, 2015

Litquake arrives in San Francisco on October 9th this year, departing October 17th, so don’t forget to join me for my 6th Annual Flight of Poets on Thursday October 15th!  Featured wineries include Gundlach Bundschu, Hess Collection, Three Wine Co., LaFollette Wines, Tin Bar & Breathless.

To whet your palate,  enjoy this poem by my friend Dean Rader, who is in the Department of English at USF, that was a finalist in the Caldwell Vineyard – Rocket Science Label Contest 2014.

Red is landing and launch,
Orbit and origin, both cork and
Crush. It’s motion, evolution,
Kinesis. It’s fire and flight.
Every color moves, but red
Takes off, it rockets through
Space, through science. Look: the
Capsule is in your hand. Explore.
Imbibe sun and skin, drink the
Earth. You too can discover the
New world; for in this realm, in this
Cosmos, in this universe,
Everything is wine.

And while you are feeling the wine vibe, chew on this little extra from Dean as well!

Take me

over tongue over teeth
over cusp cut and rim
over skin

Peel me
back and push
me down I want
to go deep

below body and bone
beneath darkness and dirt

and there raise
me up to
mouth on mouth
on lip on tip

I want to go deep
I want to be squashed
quashed and quelled

I want to be crushed

The Sangiacomos: Grapes, Farming & Family

Check out this cool story by the Sonoma County Farm Bureau on one of my favorite winegrowing families, the Sangiacomos!

Sangiacomo Family, Passionate About Agriculture and Family

Steve, Buck, Mike, Angelo & Mike Sangiacomo

Currently, the family grows Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Merlot and cool-climate Syrah grapes used by over 80 top producers in Sonoma and Napa counties. This impressive list includes special vineyard designate clients that include Neyers, Saintsbury, Sojourn Cellars, LaFollette, MacRostie, Rams Gate, B.R. Cohn, Ravenswood, Ancien and Chausseur.

In addition to being loyal members of the Sonoma County Farm Bureau, the family is also very active with other fantastic organizations like the Sonoma County Vintners, Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers, Carneros Wine Alliance, and the Petaluma Gap Winegrowers Alliance. Your Favorite Limousine Service for Wine Tours: Get the App!

purelux3In a recent Press Democrat article it was announced that Pure Luxury, a local transportation service has developed it’s own on-demand car service called BlinkCar.  This Smartphone App will allow customers to  book rides instantaneously.

BlinkCar began in December but just in Petaluma.  Service is now expanding to Santa Rosa and Sonoma, and in the spring to Napa Valley.

If you have not yet, peruse the Wine Tour options on their website and definitely give Jennifer & Gary Buffo your business:  The soon to be developed Sommelier Tours will be featuring Yours Truly!
